Padmavat release on January 25, will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Padman
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer Padmavat (earlier Padmavati) finally gets a release date. After months of protests and heated debates, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film finally certified with a ‘U/A’ rating by the CBFC.
The Examining Committee of the CBFC passed the film with a UA certificate subject to some cuts.
As per the latest reports, the film is slated to release on 25 January, 2018. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’.
Trade analyst and senior film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted about the same.
Padmavat has been surrounded by controversies right from the very beginning as right-wing Hindu and Rajput groups objected to the release of the movie. They called Padmavat a distortion of historical factsand an insult to Rajput traditions and culture. After months of conflict, the movie was finally cleared by the Censor Board after dropping the ‘i’ from the title.
Starring Deepika Padukone with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, the magnum opus tells the tale of Rani Padmavati, the legendary Mewar queen known for her beauty and intelligence as well as courage, her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh, a Rajput warrior king who fought to defend his kingdom and wife’s honour, and Sultan Alauddin Khilji.
